Summary:
The IT Infrastructure Support Specialist - Tier III provides advanced technical support for desktop, AV, and telecom systems and serves as the primary escalation point for unresolved issues from frontline IT support staff. The position also supports basic networking tasks and escalates complex infrastructure issues appropriately. This role coordinates with vendors and the IT Infrastructure team, supports project implementation, mentors support staff, and contributes to documentation and process improvements to ensure consistent, high-quality IT service delivery across district sites.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex IT issues, providing Tier 3 support for desktop, AV, telecom, and core platforms across Windows, Chrome, Apple, and mobile devices. Perform advanced diagnostics, coordinate with Infrastructure, and deliver expert analysis and customer support to ensure timely resolution and a positive user experience.
- Provide Tier 2 network support by performing switch replacements, SFP swaps, port activations, and structured cabling diagnostics. Support and test fiber connections, validate link integrity, and escalate faults to network engineers. Install and maintain physical network infrastructure-including switches, access points, and IoT devices-ensuring proper power, connectivity, and performance across all layers.
- Contribute, develop, and maintain technical documentation, training materials, and knowledge-base resources to support CSTs (IT Field Support) and SDTs (Service Desk Technician). Share expertise, identify recurring issues for problem management, and provide clear guidance to customers and colleagues on technical solutions and tool usage.
- Own and manage incident and outage escalations to vendors, partners, and leadership, ensuring timely resolution and communication. Coordinate with AV and telecom vendors for on-site repairs and collaborate with the Infrastructure Team to provide field support for escalated issues requiring on-site or vendor involvement.
- Contribute to the optimization of support services by regularly analyzing activities and tools, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement, and coordinating problem management/pattern identification to ensure proper escalations occur.
- Support the On-Site Service Manager and IT Service Delivery Director in coordinating site-based IT projects and vendor activities, including bids and implementations related to IT Infrastructure Support Specialist - Tier III responsibilities.
- Mentor Customer Service Technicians on new technologies, software, and processes to enhance technical proficiency and service quality.
- Provide Audio Visual (AV) support by troubleshooting wall controls, projectors, and digital signage, and performing limited power and connectivity validation for field-installed equipment such as scoreboards.
- Support district telecommunications infrastructure, including E911 systems, analog POTS lines, and structured cabling, to maintain reliable connectivity for critical systems such as fire alarms, elevators, and gas meters.
- Assist with depot logistics, including delivery of IT equipment, pickup of e-waste, and maintenance of stock for CST support.
- Provide technical support and guidance for bond-funded projects, including walkthroughs, field readiness, and coordination with vendors and project stakeholders.

Required:
- Bachelor's Degree with a major in: Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or Education
- Minimum of four years of relevant technical experience in: IT Service related roles, computer service support, supervision, knowledge of networking and data communication fundamentals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of networking and data communication fundamentals, field-based technical support, Telecommunications, and coordination with cross-functional IT teams.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Experience in education or public-sector environments.
- Knowledge and experience with basic and standard network support, including switch port activation, VLAN tagging, and SFP replacement.
- Familiarity with telecommunications systems, including POTS lines and cabling infrastructure supporting life safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, elevators, emergency communication telephones).
- Understanding of physical network infrastructure for connected devices, including IoT, access points, and switches.
- Proficiency in wired and wireless networking fundamentals, Ethernet cabling, and structured cabling diagnostics.
- Experience supporting Audio/Visual (AV) systems, including projectors, wall controls, digital signage, and intercoms.
- Ability to manage network printing, desktop imaging, and device configuration across multiple platforms.
- Basic knowledge of fiber optic patching, labeling, and link testing.
- Proficiency in supporting Windows OS, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android operating systems.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive) and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- ITIL Foundation Certification
