Shift Manager is the senior on‑shift leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of production and shipping operations. This role provides direct leadership and oversight to production and shipping supervisors.
As the primary escalation point, the Shift Manager drives decision‑making, resolves operational issues in real time, and ensures consistent execution of standards across the shift.
Salary range: $82,250–$102,813. Benefits: Medical/Dental.
Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate all production and shipping activities to meet daily output, service, and performance targets
- Serve as the primary point of contact for supervisors, providing direction, support, and escalation management
- Monitor shift performance and adjust staffing, priorities, and resources to meet changing demands
- Ensure effective shift handoffs and alignment across all operating areas
- Champion a safety‑first culture and ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Lead incident investigations and ensure timely completion of corrective actions
- Maintain high standards for housekeeping and safe work behaviors
- Ensure all products meet quality and food safety specifications
- Partner with Quality to address non‑conformances and implement corrective actions
- Enforce adherence to standard operating procedures and critical control points
- Lead, coach, and support production and shipping supervisors to drive accountability and performance
- Reinforce expectations, provide real‑time feedback, and support employee relations as needed
- Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive shift culture
- Track and drive key metrics including safety, quality, throughput, and service levels
- Identify gaps and implement corrective actions to improve shift performance
- Support ongoing continuous improvement initiatives within operations
- Facilitate shift meetings to communicate priorities, performance, and key issues
- Act as the central communication link between departments during the shift
- Escalate critical issues to plant leadership as needed
- Bachelor's degree preferred; or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience
- Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing experience, with demonstrated leadership of supervisors or multiple functional areas
- Experience in production and shipping operations required; food manufacturing preferred
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and plant systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Experience in a union environment preferred
Physical: Ability to walk distances across facility, climb steps, and ladders on occasions, sit at office desk work, sometimes in cooler atmosphere (35–45 °F), sometimes in engine room (+ 95 °F in hot months). Ability to work extended shifts (8–12 hours), including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Sensory: Ability to hear, see, speak, smell and touch well is necessary to perform basic essential task.
Mental/Reasoning: Must be able to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing demands. Requires strong organizational skills, dependability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.
