OverviewDirect Support Professional - Attendant Care to assist in daily care of elderly or disabled individuals, in their home or community settings, as identified through the Individual Support Plan process.
Responsibilities- Attendant Care/Housekeeping: be prompt and reliable; coordinate time off with at least two weeks advance notice to cover care arrangements; ask questions to ensure consumer's care is appropriate; during personal care, notify the consumer of any scrapes, bruises or skin problems; assist with paying bills; drive to activities and doctor appointments; assist with lift on wheelchair vans and other personal care equipment.
- Give verbal reminders or prompting as directed per ISP; participate in continuing skill development activities; attend training per ISP or provider request.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including: Bathing, Toothbrushing, Using the toilet, Dressing, Hair washing, Eating and meal preparation, transferring to or from a wheelchair; planning and shopping for meals; participating in community activities; self-medication or medication reminders; housecleaning and laundry.
- Communicate ongoing care results and updates to relevant parties.
- Collaborate with clients and families for best care opportunities.
- Maintain a healthy and comfortable living environment.
The employee is responsible for assisting the consumer in maintaining a safe and clean home, staying healthy, ensuring good meals, and supporting daily activities. This support may occur in the person’s home or in the community, based on the person’s specific needs as identified through the Individual Support Plan process.
Qualifications- Minimum of 3 months progressive hands-on personal client care experience and some housekeeping.
- Previous experience in personal care or related fields.
- Compassionate and caring demeanor; ability to build rapport with clients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong values, morals, character; teachability and strong work ethic.
