Tenure-Track Faculty: Computer Networking

Are you an experienced computer networking professional who is passionate about sharing your expertise with the next generation? Our growing Computer Networking program invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position within the Career and Technical Education division. The hired individual will teach courses supporting network infrastructure, operating systems, cybersecurity, wireless technologies, virtualization, and advanced Cisco technologies, as well as other related IT fields. This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin August 2026.

Courses taught my include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Networks/Networking; Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials; Enterprise Networks, Security and Automation; Workstation Operating Systems; PC Hardware Maintenance and Repair; Intro to Scripting & Network Programming; Windows Server Administration; Network Security; Cyber Ops; Linux Administration.

The primary duty of faculty members is to teach. In addition to teaching, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, general responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes
  • Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods
  • Assist in the articulation of courses within the division
  • Develop, integrate and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols
  • Remain current in one's discipline
  • Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff
  • Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook
  • Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment
  • Participate in program review

The hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as assigned.

Requirements

Applicants are not required to have a formal degree, but must have:

Minimum of 2,000 hours of successful work experience in the field

  • Ability to teach a wide range of computer networking courses in areas such as: Cisco-specific and general networks; switches and routers; enterprise networking and security; Python scripting; Microsoft PowerShell; workstation operating systems; personal computer hardware and maintenance; Windows Server; organizational and cyber security; Linux administration; cloud computing; data and cabling systems; industrial networking; and general industry skills
  • Availability to teach daytime and/or evening courses
  • Ability to work effectively and inclusively with diverse populations of students, colleagues, and community partners

Desired Qualifications

  • Cisco CCNA certification
  • CCNA CyberOps certification
  • Microsoft Certified Professional designation
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Linux Essentials Professional Development certification
  • Teaching, training, supervision or mentoring experience
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Experience with instructional technology
  • Experience supporting or collaborating with business/industry partners

Anticipated starting salary range for this 9-month position is $48,356 - $65,034, plus any applicable pay for overload and/or summer assignments.
