Job Title: Shift Manager

Position Summary

Organizes, plans, and manages aircraft maintenance and repair operations on the second or third shift, as designated. Develops and implements actions and procedures to accomplish aircraft maintenance objectives, schedules, while maintaining good order and discipline of assigned employees. Develops operating plans and manpower requirements for operations on the designated shift.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, schedules, coordinates, monitors and controls all activities of aircraft maintenance and repair operations on a designated shift.
  • Provides liaison directly with customers, within limits of existing contracts and agreed‑upon work scopes, to ensure maximum customer satisfaction while managing cost‑effective operations.
  • Ensures that all maintenance activities comply with customer requirements, FAA regulations, and company policy.
  • Supports supervisory staff and coordinates the efforts of department personnel toward the accomplishment of maintenance objectives and schedules. Provides direction, motivation, informational support, technical/professional guidance, and coaching to department personnel. Provides leadership to maintain a culture of procedural compliance and excellence.
  • Formulates and implements, or recommends to senior management if required, initiatives to improve performance, productivity, and cost effectiveness in areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures that tools and equipment are maintained in a serviceable condition.
  • Supports the operation with what is required to achieve the shift objectives.
  • Prepares necessary manpower requirement plans to ensure achievement of planned milestones. Prepares other reports and correspondence related to shift operations, status, and costs.
  • Maintains liaison with management in other functional areas to exchange information, coordinate efforts, report status, and resolve problems.
  • Initiates and recommends approval of personnel actions including PTO, pay changes, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, recognitions, and corrective actions.
  • Interviews, selects and/or recommends hires of employees; and provides appropriate training for departmental personnel.
  • Documents, reports, and investigates all accidents in accordance with SMS policy and procedures.
  • Performs corrective actions, as required, to improve employee performance in accordance with company policies and expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Profile

  • Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Maintenance Technology or related field; or equivalent background providing knowledge of appropriate business, industry, and technical principles, procedures and management techniques.
  • Languages: Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English regarding safety sensitive work activities, per FAA requirements.
  • Special Licenses: (none specified)
  • Previous Experience: Minimum 8 (eight) years related experience, including at least five years in a project management and supervisory capacity, providing knowledge of tier one customer’s aircraft maintenance program.
  • Integrated technical and operations management experience: Required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Required Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills; advanced technical reading/writing skills; ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality; interpreting plans, diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documents.
