MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN (GENERAL LABORER) – GDIT

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a driven, trainable, and self‑starting Mechanical Technician for a full‑time, on‑site position under an SCA contract. The role focuses on critical mechanical maintenance duties while strictly adhering to safety protocols and technical instructions in a fast‑paced, mission‑focused environment.

Position Overview

This general laborer position requires regular, hands‑on mechanical upkeep of diverse equipment. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, diesel engine theory, and precision instrumentation, reading technical drawings and blueprints to guide maintenance and repair tasks. All work will comply with outlined safety guidelines and operational instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform corrective and preventive mechanical maintenance on equipment, ensuring compliance with all standards and procedural requirements.
  • Apply a practical understanding of mechanical theory to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical systems, demonstrating expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, diesel engines, pumps, and valves.
  • Accurately follow complex technical procedures and instructions.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to guide maintenance and repair actions.
  • Use precision instruments, such as torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges, to verify equipment meets exact specifications.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all workplace safety guidelines, hazard controls, and operational instructions.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Secret security clearance required or ability to obtain.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in mechanical systems a plus.
  • Experience performing mechanical maintenance and using precision measurement tools.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, diesel engines, and mechanical theory.
  • Ability to read schematics and follow technical procedures.
  • Strong team‑oriented mindset with excellent attention to detail.
