Position SummaryThe Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection activities for the purpose of health assessment in the Clinical Lab Triage Pathology department at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center Long Beach. The Phlebotomist also performs all activities, pre-analytic analysis, analytic analysis, and data management under the direction of a California Licensed Supervisor as defined in Chapter 3 of State of California Business and Professions Code. Provides customer service communication via phone and face to face.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job- Following appropriate procedures and protocols, performs blood collection activities for the purpose of laboratory testing and health assessment as well as prepares/dispenses blood products.
- Performs analytic functions where allowed by California Law.
- Performs venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities from adult, pediatric, and/or neonatal patient population for the purpose of health assessment.
- Ensures that equipment and safety devices are used appropriately following set guidelines.
- Performs data management activities and documentation.
- Prepares and dispenses quality blood components and aliquots following regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attends department education and training in-services
- Participates in specific performance improvement projects.
- Communicates effectively with all patients and demonstrates good customer service skills.
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. QualificationsMinimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Previous experience performing venipuncture in hospital-based patient populations is preferred.
- Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment, and specimen handling is required.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by the State of California-Required
- Valid CA Drivers License and proof of car insurance if applicable.
