Role DescriptionThis is a CONTRACT/PROJECT FEE role for a Commercial Director with EQUESTRYAN. As a Commercial Director, you will be responsible for translating a brand’s message, campaign strategy, or creative brief into a compelling visual story. Lead the creative and technical execution of commercials, branded films, and other advertising content — balancing artistic vision, performance direction, and production realities.
Key Responsibilities- Creative Interpretation: Collaborate with agency creatives, clients, and producers to interpret scripts, storyboards, and brand goals into a cohesive visual concept.
- Pre-Production Leadership: Oversee casting, location scouting, art direction, shot listing, and collaboration with department heads (DP, production designer, wardrobe, etc.) to ensure creative alignment.
- Direction on Set: Lead the shoot, direct actors or talent, and manage the crew to achieve the desired tone, performance, and visual style within budget and schedule.
- Client & Agency Collaboration: Communicate effectively with clients and agency teams on set and in prep to maintain trust, address feedback, and align on the brand’s objectives.
- Post-Production Oversight: Work closely with editors, colorists, and sound designers to maintain the integrity of the concept through the final cut.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure the final piece aligns with the brand’s visual identity, tone, and marketing strategy.
- Strong storytelling instincts — able to convey emotion and clarity within short runtimes.
- Deep understanding of composition, lighting, performance, and pacing.
- Experience collaborating with agencies and clients under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and leadership on set.
- Familiarity with production workflows, post pipelines, and emerging media formats (social, digital, broadcast).
- Ability to adapt style to different brands while maintaining creative identity.
- Prior experience in directing commercials, branded films, or music videos.
- Portfolio/reel showcasing commercial storytelling and brand work.
- Often collaborates with a production company or agency, though some directors work independently or freelance.
