Job DescriptionThe Physical Therapist position requires current Physical Therapy skills to evaluate, plan, implement and/or delegate a comprehensive plan of patient care in the orthopedic, pre/post‑surgical, neurological, and health/wellness service areas. Position descriptions are reviewed and revised to meet the changing needs of the organization. The Physical Therapist will manage patient evaluations, treatment plans, documentation, billing, supervision of associate staff, mentorship, and participation in quality improvement initiatives at Valley Medical Center.
PrerequisitesCurrent or in process Washington State PT License or Interim License.

Occasionally requires transfer of patients weighing up to or exceeding 200 lbs with maximum assistance from wheelchair to table and back to chair. The role requires standing, sitting, crouching, bending, and walking for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds to complete patient care responsibilities.

- Maintain all appropriate certifications and licenses specific to the role.
- Comply with the professional ethics and code of conduct set by professional organizations, e.g., American Physical Therapy Association and Washington State Practice Act.
- Perform evaluations that include patient functional status appropriate to diagnosis, needs or condition.
- Collect, analyze, and integrate data from the health care team to set an appropriate plan of care.
- Elicit information from patients to incorporate into the assessment and plan of care.
- Set specific goals during the evaluation to assist patient in restoring, improving, or maintaining optimal performance in self‑care, responsibility, independence, and quality of life.
- Adhere to departmental policies and treatment protocols.
- Perform and document re‑evaluations or reassessments, revising treatment plans as standards require.
- Perform telehealth/virtual visits using appropriate documentation and coding standards.
- Provide patient education to assist them in meeting goals and improving functional skills.
- Act as a resource for developing and refining patient educational materials.
- Collaborate with the full care team to adjust treatment plans by incorporating team input.
- Determine the need for further treatment, discharge, or continuation of care, including appropriate fitness prescriptions.
- Provide appropriate information to subsequent providers regarding patient plans when a patient moves to different services.
- Provide direct supervision to Physical Therapy Assistant, Exercise Specialist, and Rehab Aide staff for treatment and programs.
- Delegate patients to assistant and exercise staff with clear communication and guidance.
- Answer assistant questions and provide feedback and education on techniques and progression.
- Offer clear and concise information to support staff with scheduling, registration, and financial information.
- Orient new staff, students, and volunteers as appropriate.
- Complete authorizations or certifications for care in a timely manner.
- Assist in obtaining orders and written prescriptions for appropriate therapy.
- Follow up as necessary in accordance with standards.
- Document accurately and timely per protocols, within three days of visit or before the next scheduled visit.
- Follow billing policies for timely, accurate billing.
- Utilize CPT codes appropriately and understand rules such as the 8‑minute rule versus substantial portion methodology.
- Use technology for team communication, including email, internet, voicemail, and other appropriate tools.
- Monitor patient information and quality improvement processes using technology.
- Participate in developing new programs or modifications to expand services.
- Network and collaborate professionally to promote Therapy Services clinics or programs.
- Learn new methods of service delivery as appropriate.

As a member of the Lifestyle Medicine clinical team, this position requires competency in health risk assessment and incorporation into integrated patient care plans, interdisciplinary collaboration with Exercise Specialists and Registered Dietitians, long‑term goal setting, and motivational interviewing.
Clinical Specialist Designation (Outpatient)In addition to the responsibilities outlined for the Outpatient Physical Therapist, the Clinical Specialist will also mentor, onboard, and provide direct supervision to peers, volunteers, and students. Notable duties include: peer mentoring for specific evaluation and/or treatment skills; supervision of volunteer/job shadow personnel; and program development for student supervision.
Clinical Specialist Prerequisites- All prerequisites required for the Outpatient Physical Therapist.
- At least two years of current clinical practice experience.
- Completed and maintains department‑approved advanced certification.
- Ability to prioritize tasks for patient care and projects, meeting established standards and deadlines.
