The Manager, Milieu teaches new tools for staff to use when working with patients and ensure appropriate and evidence-based practice care by staff, to promote positive outcomes with patients. The Manager, Milieu ensures staff provide a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, education groups, and ensures staff encourages all patients attend their activities of daily. Directs, supervises and evaluates performance of MHTs in the provision of patient care. The Manager, Milieu also ensures that the program schedule is adhered to by staff. The Manager, Milieu will serve as a liaison between Social Services, Nursing Services, and Medical Staff Services. Additionally, the Manager, Milieu will work with all Nursing staff to ensure Special Behavioral Treatment Plans are carried out as written by the treatment team. The Manager, Milieu will function as a staff-development trainer, sharing expert techniques and strategies with core and PRN staff working with patients of all ages. This will include demonstrating effective crisis-management skills, taking proactive steps to prevent crises on the units when warning signs become evident, and provide a coach-to-team approach of problem-solving on the units. Additionally, the Manager, Milieu will be responsible for recognizing nursing team members who need additional training with therapeutic techniques/skills and provide intentional redirection and oversight to help improve such skills.Milieu Management* Facilitates the completion of safety round checklists by verifying that precaution checks are completed timely and accurately, MHTs are in assigned areas, all patient doors are open, assignments sheets are completed, and patient information has not been left on the unit.* Continually monitors the milieu. Takes measures necessary to maintain and improve the quality of care.* Identifies problems in the delivery of patient care, develops solutions and monitors effectiveness.* Effectively utilizes assignment sheets to provide a core structure of placement and accountability of all MHTs assigned to the unit/shift.* Effectively utilizes shift reports to organize and pre-plan problem areas.* Avoids a \"shift mentality\" by proactively planning for hand off of duties to following shifts and by communicating clearly too all shifts supporting a unit team.* Ensures staff are observant of key patient behavior cues and communicates theses proactively to other team members.* Ensures staff proactively communicate concerns and problems to appropriate staff and seek input, advice and support as needed to maintain an objective approach to team member communication.* Ensures staff establish therapeutic relationships with patients and provides assigned patient care within the general policies, philosophy, and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the facility.* Ensures staff implement interventions appropriate to the developmental needs of the patient in accordance with the treatment plan demonstrating sound clinical and professional judgment and competency.* Ensures staff monitors unit milieu and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, family members and staff. Modifies milieu according to developmental needs of the patients.* Ensures staff respond to patients in crisis and acts according to developmental needs of the patient to ensure patient and unit safety.* Ensures staff completes patient rounds timely in accordance with unit requirements and accurately documents patient observations in ObservSmart.* Ensures staff actively participate in the shift report pre-planning for problems, frequently interacts with patients face-to-face, and is constantly moving and hyper-vigilant when assigned to hallways.* Ensures staff demonstrates knowledge and skills related to special treatment procedures for precautions, seclusions, restraints, elopements, close observation and searches.* Ensures staff observe patient affect and behaviors, informs nurse of changes and implements procedures as directed by the nurse.* Ensure staff uses the least restrictive approach to behavior management and reflects the same in documentation.* Ensures staff is knowledgeable of seclusion and restraint systems utilized with regard to all patients.* Ensures staff accurately and thoroughly documents the maintenance of special treatment procedures in progress notes.QualificationsQualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field. Five (5) years of experience in hospital or healthcare setting to include at least 2 years of lead, supervisory or management experience.
