We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Developer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design and build scalable backend solutions, lead technical initiatives, and mentor team members while driving innovation in distributed systems and cloud‑native architectures.

- Design, develop, and optimize applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices with a strong focus on performance, analytics, and quality assurance.
- Implement event‑driven architectures leveraging Apache Kafka for real‑time data streaming.
- Build and maintain Kafka producers, consumers, and stream‑processing applications, integrating them with Spring Boot/Spring Kafka microservices.
- Translate business requirements into technical designs, write robust code, and deliver projects on schedule.
- Provide technical leadership to distributed teams through design reviews, code reviews, and best practice guidance.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues with detailed root‑cause analysis, implementing sustainable long‑term fixes.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to clarify requirements, support business objectives, and influence architectural decisions.
- Mentor team members, enhance engineering practices, and foster a culture of accountability, compliance, and integrity.
- Strong proficiency in Core Java, J2EE, and modern frameworks such as Spring/Spring Boot.
- Proven experience designing and developing large‑scale, high‑performance microservices architectures.
- Deep expertise with NoSQL databases (Cosmos DB, MongoDB) and hands‑on experience with Kafka for distributed messaging.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including architecture and deployment.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, with experience troubleshooting build failures, test errors, and deployment issues.
- Strong architectural knowledge in building resilient, scalable systems, with exposure to analytics implementations (e.g., Adobe Analytics).
The annual salary for this position is between $55,000 – $82,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
